DIRT TRAX PRODUCT REVIEW: We were very proud to h DIRT TRAX PRODUCT REVIEW: We were very proud to help out AJ Lester, Vern and the crew at Dirt Trax to ‘suspend’ this WR 700 Grizzly Project build. ELKA SUSPENSION supplied the Stage 5 shocks and ACCELERATED TECHNOLOGIES looked after the install, set up, and tuning. We took A.J. out to our test track after the install and walked through rebound as well as training on low and high speed compression. A.J. was super excited to finish the rest of the build and get on the track with this new weapon. It was wonderful to see this WR 700 grizzly project build on display in the factory Yamaha booth this past weekend at the Toronto international centre, showing at the huge Snowmobile ATV and power sports show. PRODUCT REVIEW: Here we have installed an X TRIG PRODUCT REVIEW: Here we have installed an X TRIG Mechanical preload adjuster. We have fallen in love with these units and use them almost every ride. I know many of you have never probably ever adjusted your preload, which is fairly normal. Yes we hear a SAG number and we might set the preload up to hit that SAG number and then never ever touch it again. But when you have an adjustment that is this easy to do, You will be amazed at the speed at which you can lift or lower the back of the bike slightly on preload to test balance and ride height changes. Say your front end isn’t getting very good grip you can add a mill of preload in 10 seconds with a little 8 mm socket extension and quarter inch ratchet from your tool bag. Yes, you can venture away from an ideal SAG number, but the ability to change right height quickly to test direction is unbelievably invaluable. For example, I put a fresh tire on for the Corduroy Enduro and didn’t get a chance to test the bike. After one of the first tests, I found the new larger rear tire was a little tall and overloading the front. I was able to take a half a mill of preload out and fixed it perfectly during one of the transits. I’ll never have another dirtbike shock without one of these on top of the spring. Many, many dirt bikes with the airbox and the frame rails, and the exhaust make getting to the preload adjuster impossible without a hammer and a punch, I refuse to use a hammer and a punch on my dirt bikes and usually end up taking the shock out to do a slight preload change. With the X-Trig adjuster, it’s a game changer. Unfortunately, Jamie’s Sachs shock had so little body threads. We had to select a shorter spring to go along with it but no big deal. Enjoy the day and here is a little sprinkling of suspension input, showing the dual rate springs doing their thing on our old trusted Yamaha grizzly. Dual rate springs give you a soft initial rate and a strong end rate. It can be beneficial to maintain or improve comfort while still having a large bottom spring to carry big loads such as heavy trailers, outback or a plough full of snow out front. These simple Stage 1 and Stage 2 Elkas are reasonably priced and give the grizzly a massive improvement in comfort and load carrying capability with the same springs.
