TWIN SHIOCKS: Shocks are flying in and back out f TWIN SHIOCKS: Shocks are flying in and back out for our big cruisers. Usually we stock HARLEY Twin shocks to replace the terrible OEM dampers on HARLEY DAVIDSONs, but these two shocks from one of our favourite suppliers K-TECH are for a MOTO GUZZI. Custom selected spring rates because every rider and gear load is different and then length set to application, these shocks feature INFINITE PRELOAD adjustability, COMPRESSION damping to adjust to your riding pace, and REBOUND damping to fine tune for road conditions. This set also features a dual rate springs, which when selected properly is soft enough in the top of the stroke for just the rider alone, but firms up low in the stroke to help prevent bottoming when load increases or a passenger hops on. It doesn't take the place of adjusting the preload for a passenger properly (if your feeling lazy), but it does make the shock much better at taking a wide variety of loads. This set also features ADJUSTABLE RIDE HEIGHT to make the bike steer quicker or more stable without messing up your preload to do it, or slide forks up or down in the clamps which is the other easy way of changing the bikes handling characteristics. RUST INSIDE YOUR FORKS!: People often ask us how RUST INSIDE YOUR FORKS!: People often ask us how often should they get the oil changed in their forks? We sometimes hear that "i don't use the bike much so it should be ok" Well, the reality in Canada and the northern US is that temperature fluctuations that our bikes see day to day when parked outside or in un-insulated storage will cause condensation to collect. A cold bike when it gets hit with warm moist air will be covered in water as it collects on the cooler chassis. In the two later photos we see extensive rust above the oil level on the steel damper rods and often the tops of the fork springs as well. We recommend a fork oil change every second year during standard (non competition) use for offroad bikes and every 20-30,000 km for street bikes (or every second year as well). WR 250 SUSPENSION: Mike sent us his forks and sh WR 250 SUSPENSION: Mike sent us his forks and shock for a service, revalve, respring and shorten. After a busy snowmobile season, we are switching over to summer toys in at the shop. Mike complained of kicking in the rear of the bike. Without too much data, we need to determine if the kicking is from overly soft compression and/or spring which results in too much time in the shocks bump rubber. The build up of energy when crushing the bump rubber will result in a reactive explosion out of the bump rubber, which usually overwhelms the rebound damping setting inside the shock. So, we put the shock on the dyno to check it out. Post runs, we decided to firm up the compression by about 15%, but firm up the rebound by about 40% as it was too light for the spring range. After calculating the wheel to shock motion ratio, we shortened the shock appropriately which mandated a new Eibach spring. The forks got a full service with lathe polish of the tubes, new seals, wipers and bushings and a matching lowering job inside the cartridge. Damping was deemed to be very good and left alone. The red lines on the forks bottom tube are to help Mike with tuning the damping and if needed the oil level by seeing how much travel the Oring displays during use. (You can see the same shaft O ring on the shock as well). ROAD RACE FORKS: These YAMAHA R6 forks are headed ROAD RACE FORKS: These YAMAHA R6 forks are headed out to one of my favourite little tracks on the CSBK National circuit. AMP or Atlantic Motorsport Park in Schubenacadie Nova Scotia. I have won races there as a rider and then again as a team owner with Jodi Christie and the Factory Honda Race team and know the track very well. This is Ktech's RDS damping system that drops 25mm cartridges into these Soqi forks to dramatically improve the response and control over the bumps. The forks retain compression damping and rebound damping as well as 15 turns of preload and quick change springs to tune the fork for different circuits and different braking loads. We lathe polish your tubes and install new guide and slide bushings as well as seals and wipers so the forks are essentially new. What a place to begin and end our week of 2025 MXZ and Expedition ELKA shock testing. We also beat on our new Precision EFI turbo Stage 1…. Faultless. What a weekend! First of all, I have to thank a b What a weekend! First of all, I have to thank a bunch of people for helping get two sleds built and on the snow that required a ton of effort to complete. We had a water pump plastic impeller shaft strip on our 2022 renegade XRS with 2500 km on it. No good reason for the failure, but HB Cycle hand-delivered the parts in record time, and Andy McGill from Handy Andy Racing came and helped me get the motor reinstalled in 3 hours. Clark Wilson from Bergstrom Triple point Carbides got us screw in Gripper studs and bars for the Expedition build, and Sebastien, Sam and Kevin from Precision EFI out of Quebec walked me through the installation of a Stage 1 R kit on our new 2025 Expedition Le build. Elka Suspension has always worked hand in hand with us as we are testing valving and spring packages on our new 2025 MXZ Gen 5 trail platform and the all new Expedition shock package also being released in 2025. All I can say is WOW, the 2 2025s and I he 2022 Renegade are working SOOO good. Oh and the trails OMG. If you are from Southern Ontario and think you need to go to Cochrane for snow… YOU DONT!! Just one hour north of North Bay, we checked into the spectacular Temagami Shores inn and resort. This place is off the charts perfect. Owned by snowmobilers, they have beautiful rooms and cabins, a restaurant on site and the Top A trail runs right in front of the lodge. We then headed to the Auld Reekie Lodge in Gowganda. The trails were the nicest I have ridden on in 10 years. From there we headed to the Hacienda B n B in North Sudbury and the trails weee even better (if possible). Just unbelievable. All we can say is get out and ride, support those gas stations, restaurants and Inns that are supporting us snowmobilers! Enjoy this amazing snowy winter we are just in the middle of!!!
TESTING!!! What a day at the Haliburton Forest. TESTING!!! What a day at the Haliburton Forest. Andrew is practising suspension diagnostics and working on datalogging our Smart Shocks calibrations while evaluating a new Elka Stage 5 centre shock setting we are releasing for the 2025s. Jen is running our new 2025 XRS 850 MXZ through its paces to determine ideal A arm angle and ride height on the new RAS X spindles. After lunch, we will run through our dual rate spring package to quantify ride heights and then move onto Elkas. I am actively data logging the new Renegade, and MXZ Elka front and rear shock settings that we will be releases next week as well.
